All five of the Local Authorities on Merseyside recognise the need for professional drivers to have professional qualifications and this forms part of the taxi licensing requirements.
For many years, taxi and private hire drivers have recognised that the job's much more tham just driving the vehicle - it involves dealing with a wide variety of customers including children, foreign visitorsĀ and people with disabilities, health and safety, equality and diversity, managing finances, and many other areas.
All these skills now form part of the taxi qualifications created by GoSkills, the Sector Skills Council, and are required as part of the licensing process on Merseyside.
They are delivered by a network of providers, including local colleges, independant training providers, and some taxi operators who also provide training.

While every effort is made to ensure the information is correct, please note that funding and qualifications are subject to constant change and training providers may change their delivery without notice.
